KNOXVILLE —I think it is safe to say that we all want clean, affordable electricity that doesn’t threaten our health and environment.
Recently, the Tennessee Valley Authority released a draft of its long-term energy plan outlining how it will meet electricity demand for the next 25 years, and the results are stark. TVA’s plan would limit affordable clean energy while keeping coal plants running longer and allowing many new methane gas plants to be built.
This could make our bills skyrocket, increase the risk of blackouts during extreme weather, and harm our health while polluting our air and water. We need you to speak up on TVA's plan! Submit your comment today!
As the region’s energy provider, TVA plays a big role in our lives. When TVA maps out where our electricity will come from and how much power it will need to generate over the next 25 years, it’s important we pay attention and seize opportunities to get involved. Previously, TVA didn’t allow for meaningful public input on its energy plan, but months of advocacy for a public comment period have finally paid off. Now we have to take advantage of it!
TVA was built by and for the people of the Tennessee Valley. Now, it's time for our voices to be heard. We want TVA to put communities first by investing in energy efficiency and affordable clean energy, instead of doubling down on expensive fossil fuels.
TVA is accepting public comments on its Integrated Resource Plan until July 22.
